This is the place for fresh baked chicken pot pie. Esa the owner is always so accomadating to what you want in selection. But i must say everything here is out of this world.

We had a barbeque and the dessert was catered by Butter Love.  There was an amazing dulce de leche cake, more pie, thick, chocolatey brownies.  My guests were dying.
The brownies were so good, I almost didn't mind that the kids ground them into my Nani Marquina rug.

The first party I attended where Butter Love goods were dropped off I helped Esa (owner/chef/delivery girl) walk the mother-load of pies from the car to the table.  She was explaining the packaging and the string wrapped around the box. As she was talking I was thinking, "I'm a dude. I don't get the string but if the box had a picture of an army of zombies fighting an army of robots fighting an army of ninjas for a mountain of pies then I would dig that. It would be the best box ever." But what I did get was Esa's enthusiasm and attention to detail and her obvious love for her product and its presentation. She took a memory from her childhood and turned it into part of her business.

At that original party I got to sample a large array of Butter Love's artisanal treats. Everything was tasty but I only got a bite or two. This last week we wanted to take some dinner to some friends who are under house arrest (not due to Johnny Law but with the arrival of a new addition to their house). I jumped on Butter Love's website, perused their wares, and sent in an order. Easy as pie!! Get it? Easy as pie! I am oh so witty. I didn't realize there was a preferred time window of a week but they handled my order like pros.

We ordered and picked up a savory (Chicken Pot Pie) and a sweet (Butter Pie) pie. Everything was just as good as I remember. My only complaint was that I needed ice cream with my Butter Pie. That was my fault though as I like ice cream with everything. Cake, pickles, salsa, pizza, etc. The only thing that can make pie better is pie ala Mode. Our food was so good that as soon as I finish this review I am going to put in another order for when my family comes into town next week.

One world. One love. One Butter Love.

I am duly knocked on my keister.

Sometimes you want to like a business because you like the people.  And the Butter Love family are some seriously lovely people -- but that's not what got me to scarf down all the loot I collected at their last bake sale.  Within 36 hours.  I ate like such a pig because this girl is a GENIUS.  The goodies Esa bakes up are rich, delicious, creative... and not too sweet.  The butter pie was like eating sweet dreams, and the cabernet chocolate cupcakes are straight-up girl smack.  Every single thing we had was memorable and had that wonderful homemade taste that I've been missing ever since my blessed, perpetually flour-dusted grandmother died years ago.

This business lives up to its name: the goodies taste like butter and love.  Name two better things, and I will call you a liar to your FACE.

Great delivery & communication by the 1-person catering business.
I've tried:
- butter pie (her signature) with raisins
- butter pie with pecans
- nectarine pie (special for July)
- cottage pie
- Veggie pot pie

All delicious. flaky crust, fresh ingredients in the savory pies, not those frozen bags of square carrots and round peas.

I love pie, and I had one thing on my mind this morning, and that was to get to the Butter Love Bake Sale, pick up a pie or two and get them home before proceeding with the rest of the day.  Much to my surprise I wasn't the first one there at a few minutes past 11 AM.  Apparently Anthony L had the same thing on his mind as he arrived some 45 minutes earlier.

Esa and friend were just setting out all of the baked goodies (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), and Josh hadn't arrived yet with the hot-from-the-oven chicken pot pies so we got to hang around for a bit.  Once the sale got going I picked up a still hot chicken pot pie, a nectarine pie, some peanut butter cookies and some chocolate chip cookies.  (Note for future reference: two pies in separate boxes fit perfectly into Yelp reusable tote bag.)  Anthony commented that the chicken pot pie weighed at least 5 pounds.

The chicken pot pie was still warm when I got home, and out of curiosity I put it out on my kitchen scale to find that it indeed weighed 4.8 pounds.  I couldn't wait to cut into it.  I had a hefty quarter pie slice, and this pie was stuffed with filling (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  The golden brown crust was super flaky and rolled out thin.  Every mouthful I took in screamed out BUTTER!  The perfectly seasoned filling was outrageously good with lots of chicken meat, soft potatoes, carrots, peas and just enough gravy to hold it all together.  Fabulous, I kid you not this was the best chicken pot pie I've ever had.  I filled up just on that quarter slice of pie.

I had to wait for five hours before I could sample the nectarine pie (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).  I took a chunk out of that pie just like I did with the first one.  The nectarine pie was stuffed solid with big pieces of nectarine (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) that were not too sweet and not to tart in the perfect pie crust.  I'll use the term scrumptious because it was all that and more.  I'm prepared to skip dinner tonight because I'm so full of pie.  The cookies (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) will have to wait until later tonight.

Thanks Esa and Josh for introducing me to Butter Love Bakeshop and your fabulous pies.  You can expect an order from me in the very near future.

I had every intention of showing up promptly at 11AM for the Butter Love Bake Sale today.  Instead, I showed up at 1PM.  I found out that the sale was a success and was thankful that a few items were left.

I had the pleasure of buying the last apple pie.  Phew!  Had it tonight a la mode after dinner and it was awesome!  The apples were fresh and there was good cinnamon flavor which wasn't overdone with a lot of sugar.  The crust was flaky and tasted very homemade.

Since most of pies were gone earlier in the day, I was able to buy a 1/2 strawberry pie.  Yes, really!  The pie was being sold by the slice, but I couldn't bear to see it left behind.  So the half was mine.  This too was excellent.

Thank you Esa -- you do great work.  Will keep an eye on the next gig for you!

I have been wanting to get one of their pies when I heard of Esa and Josh a while back, but never got around to it.  It took a surprise birthday pie to finally get some.  Now I will have to get some on my own because the birthday pie is gone.

After a great dinner at Mandalay, my friend pulled out this surprise pie!  Where she hid it, I have no idea.  We had the Butter Pie since that's her specialty, and that only makes me want to sample others.  Next on my list is the Apple and Chicken Pot Pie.  The pie was sweet, but not overly sweet, and would go great with a good cup of coffee.   I am trying to figure out what's in it, but I am no baker, and will have to satisfy my pie needs by ordering again.

Which I will do very soon.  Esa and Josh are two of the kindest people I have met on Yelp, and I really prefer to shop at "Mom and Pop" places anyway.  They will deliver to your home or office.  Now I don't have to take out a pie from the freezer when I want some for Holidays.  There ... I said it.  FROZEN pie for some holidays.  May I burn in Hell!

You should order a week in advance, according to the web site, and returning customers get a $2 credit for the return of the pie pan.  The pans are good and sturdy, and might keep it anyway and pay the 2 bucks more.  They will come in handy for a Ham and Cheese Melt!

Get yours NOW!

All the reviews being five stars thus far should attest to the caliber of these pies.  I'm jealous of Esa--not only because she's good at what she does, but because she's doing something that she loves.

After a filling dinner, I had meant to sample my friend's butter pie.  It was very sweet, but very good.  Before I knew it, one bite turned into several more.  I somehow harnessed the power within to restrain myself from consuming one slice.  Dietary restrictions seemingly go out the window.  I now wish I had bought a whole, fattening butter pie all to myself.

Rest assured, I will be back for more.

Pie is some seriously awesome shit. In the hierarchy of awesome shit like world peace or finding $20 in a pair of pants you haven't worn in a while or puppies and rainbows pie definitely fits in there some place. So it's no wonder that I married a pastry chef who just happens to have a family recipe for the most perfect pie crust I've ever had. How could I NOT marry her? Oh, yeah, she's also sweet, beautiful, funny, blah blah blah but we're talking pie here y'all! Naturally, Esa http://www.yelp.com/us... has taken this talent and parlayed it into a small business that I really hope will flourish. Like I stated before, pie = world peace. OK, maybe it's not rocket science but then again rocket science isn't delicious.

Butter Love Bakeshop specializes in seasonal organic pies with an all butter crust. Have I mentioned the perfect pie crust? Flaky, tender and with just the right amount of crispiness. You could fill one of her pies with cat hair and it would be delicious. Well, except for the cat hair part. In addition to seasonal fruit pies there are usually monthly specials like the Guinness cottage pie and Irish Coffee pie as well as savory chicken or vegetable pot pies and do-it-yourself pie dough rounds. You should also try the signature butter pie. I know, butter pie, right? Butter and pie, two words which when combined resonate with the perfection akin to the phrases "oral sex" or "foot powder."

What's that? You don't like pie? If you don't like pie then I don't like YOU! I'm kidding, I'm not that extreme but that really is a serious character flaw and you should really look into that. That's OK, because in addition to pies Butter Love also makes cakes, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, frostings and curds.

When was the last time someone told you, "You're too skinny. You should really eat some pie." Really, never? Well there you go. Make pie. Buy pie. Eat pie. http://www.butterloveb.../

Life takes you by the arm and surprises you sometimes.  You know, when you pledge your undying love and loyalty to a friend in a high school yearbook, only to not remember who they are a summer later.  Or when the geeky girl you had a crush on your freshman year in high school transforms into an incredibly smart intelligent confident and headstrong woman who suddenly shows an interest in you your senior year.  Or when you find out that Christina Aguilera is now THE CLASSY ONE (WTF) ?!?!!

Life took me by surprise the summer between high school and college.  I was diagnosed as diabetic, and found out that from here on out, I would have to be on a low to no sugar diet.  This meant - no fudge, no ice cream, no chocolate, no cookies, no candy, no soda.  I was to live a spartan life.  At least I had my bacon.

So I was cautious when I was presented with a slice of Butter Love's rich smooth sweet butter pie.  Will this kill me?  Will I die?  So I cautiously took a small bite and..... MOTHER FUCKER I DON'T FUCKING CARE IF I DIE BECAUSE HOLY SHIT WHAT THE HELL IS IN THIS PIE I THINK IT'S BROWN SUGAR, VANILLA, BUTTER AND A FUCKING BUCKET OF DELICIOUSNESS.  The flaky soft crust, the creamy smooth sweet butter filling, the .... OOOoOOooOOohhhhh.

And every single pie I've tried from Butter Love, whether it's their hearty VEGETARIAN or CHICKEN POT PIES, their vegetable or beef EMPANADAS, their MIXED BERRY PIES, their VEGAN CHOCOLATE CAKE, or their SIGNATURE BUTTER PIE has felt like angels descended from heaven, blessed the earth for producing the flavors that enter into my mouth, and personally allowed me to experience the sensation of heavenly perfection in pie form.  Lofty words, I know, but I'm so fucking right on this one, IT HURTS ME.

Here's the thing.  Butter Love is not just content with selling you a pie and wishing you on your way.  No no no, that is not the pie-lover's way.  You see, pie is created to be shared.  Pie is created to be social, and Butter Love's philosophy reflects that.

Butter Love also provides PIE SETS, which come with filling, crust, pans, rolling pins, and all the accessories needed to create your own pie in the comfort of your own home.  And if that isn't enough, Butter Love offers PIE PARTY CLASSES in which they will come to your home with all ingredients and supplies for making pie, a fruit and cheese plate to nibble on, and a lesson on how to create your very own homemade pie at the end of the day.

Butter Love reminds me of what it feels like to be young again.  To be naive, to be with people, to be social and carefree and happy.  This entirely homegrown operation has thus far been spread only through word of mouth, and not many have yet had the pleasure of tasting the elegance of simplicity that is core to Butter Love's philosophy.  But you can, because Butter Love delivers everywhere in San Francisco.  In our ever-changing San Francisco life, where Ghetto is the new Hip, Apple is the new Microsoft, Foodie is the new Formula, and Hype is the new Mainstream, Butter Love sticks to its roots and offers a simple idea that has withstood the test of time.  That quality and excellence aren't easily duplicated, and that sometimes all you need is a little surprise in your life.

But not surprises like like when you find out Kevin Federline is the BETTER parent (SERIOUSLY WTF?!?!?).  That shit's some fucked up surprise, yo.

I have a new addiction. I didn't realize that I had a problem until my bf said I was muttering "I want more Butter Love....more Butter Love...pies" in my sleep.

The addiction started when I ordered the Apple Crisp Pie. Apple pie is my favorite dessert pie and she made it better than any pie I ever tasted. I loved the way the crust was light, flaky, tender and delicious. The apples were spiced too perfection. I was in love at first bite and my new addiction took breathe.

My bf has posed an intervention. As much as he loves the Butter Love pies, too. He has limited me to one pie a month. Unless there is a special occasion where I need to pretend that I baked a pie myself. Ok, I would never ever do that...*evil laugh*... I will give all the credit to dear Esa at Butter Love Bakeshop!

However, I must agree with my bf. If I continue to order these truly desirable dessert pies weekly, I will have Butter Love pies on my Butter Love thighs for our wedding. So, I have decided...one yummy pie a month! Which will be perfect because then I can try her delicious monthly specials like the March special "Irish Coffee Pie with Chocolate Pastry Crust". In fact, I have already tried it and it is SOOOO Good! This is your perfect Saint Patty's day pie.

My friends have LOVED the last couple of visits to my house because of these pies. They even started making requests like "Does she have a Mermaid Pie" or does she have a recipe for "Kick in the Pants Pie" or "Baby Screaming its Head Off in the Middle of the Night and Ruining My Life pie"? I had to remind them that my new pie baker was not Kerry from the movie Waitress, but someone better.

Esa is the baker behind Butter Love Bakeshop. She is the kindest baker that has ever home delivered pies right to my front door. She is a mom of a cute little baby girl and Butter Love Bakeshop is a business that she has recently started. I truly commend and admire her for that.

I love that she is recycling her pie pans, too. She uses real pie baking pans, not tin foil pans. On her last pie delivery, I gave her the pie pan back from a previous delivery to use in future deliveries.

A young mom starting her own delicious bakeshop AND environmentally conscious. You can't go wrong by ordering a delicious pie from Esa at Butter Love Bakeshop. So...what are you waiting for? Start ordering!

Have you heard that song, Nature Boy, by Nat King Cole?  Maybe it's the Jesus lover in me, but I completely believe in the message of the last few lines of this song, which is a great guideline in anything you do in life:

"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."

The pies from Butter Love Bakeshop are undeniably made with love... It's no wonder you'll feel the butterflies when you take a bite.

The first time I tasted Esa's butter pie, I was amazed by its rich, sugary, buttery perfection and its ever so flaky crust.  I forgot everything that was on my mind at that moment.  The butter pie literally took over my entire being.  Even though I was in the middle of this huge party, I felt like no one else was in the room but me and that butter pie.

A week later, I ordered 5 pies from Esa, who delivers for $5 anywhere in San Francisco.  The orders should be made a week in advance.  I ordered a chicken pot pie, and 4 butter pies--some of which I gave to the Cardiac ICU staff at my work for the holidays.  (What!? they have state-of-the-art equipment and the best trained medical personnel if anything remarkable happens!)  Essentially, they were all ecstatic about this revelation and loved every bite!

The chicken pot pie is probably my most favorite savory pie.  I have a coworker who used to be in the restaurant business and is also a chef himself.... he went gaga over the crust of this pie.  He exclaimed, "How is it physically possible that the crust of that pie stays intact, flaky/buttery after a day of being in the fridge?"  This chicken pot pie is so special--chunks of chicken, baby onions (sooo good), carrots, and other veggies.... the glorious crust was so freakin' perfect!

Several weeks later, I had a hankering for more butter pie and chicken pot pie.  I also placed an order for the full fat beef shepherd's pie.  The shepherd's pie had tender pieces of beef with carrots and peas and gravy, topped with a heaping mound of mashed potatoes--which got better the 2nd day.  I was so happy I was also able to share some of these Butter Love Pies with my dear friends...

So that butter pie... its been consistent at giving me that same experience I had at first bite... This is how it was like for me....
You take a bite, and a surge of energy will pulsate through your body... alerting your chemical neurotransmitters to make sure that only YOU mattered at that moment.  Dopamine levels skyrocket and you feel that intoxicating feeling that no man has ever figured out in the course of history.... love.

Yet, it is a conundrum that Esa is able to harness this effect in her creations.  Then again, it's not really a puzzle to be solved.  Love just is.

This is my baby!

I have worked in the restaurant industry since I was 16 years old and when my daughter was born she spent some time in the hospital. I felt it was not fair to her for me to go right back to work, so after 6 months I joined the FiDi work force. It satisfies my needs but not my heart, my passion, or my soul!

I needed to feel the butter on my hands once more! So I started making cakes for people and catering small events, and making baby food. Then I wanted to refine it and turn it into a real business rather than an every once in awhile thing. So, I thought what item makes me happy? Where does my real talent lie? What do I like to eat? Butter! Pie! Butter and Pie!

My mother's recipe for pie dough is the best I have ever had! She has spent over thirty years perfecting it. I have been making it with her my whole life. My husband has been making it personally and professionally for the last 8-9 years. It truly is the best!

What is the secret? There is none. It is practice, love, and butter! Nothing more. Pie dough is hard to make right and even harder to make with all butter. But once you master it there is no going back to shortening! It is just not the same.

I admit it, I'm a butter snob, but that snobbery benefits my pies! There is nothing fake or weird in it. It is simple beauty at it's best! Elegant with out being pretentious, classy while being homey. It is warmth, it is comfort, it is love!

Now to the menu:

The signature pie: Butter Pie
The most popular pies:  Butter pie and chicken pot pie

We have something for everyone: Savory pies, hand held pies, seasonal fruit pies, seasonal fruit crisp pies, pudding pies, special requests, monthly specials!

Not everyone loves pie?! While I really don't get it I respect the fact that pie is not for every one. So we also make cakes, cup cakes, cookies, brownies, and really almost anything else you can think of! Between me and my hubby (the in house chef) we have almost all of it covered. We will not hesitate to do our best to please. If we cannot do it we will recommend someone who can!

Not everyone loves butter?! This one I understand more, but still have a hard time believing! For those of you on diets, or who have high cholesterol , or choose to be vegan we offer non- butter options like angel food cake or chiffon cake, and almost any vegan baked good upon request. The only thing I refuse the vegans is pie, and that is purely on principal! I refuse to make a lesser product. Pie and butter should go hand in hand! I will make vegan cakes, cookies, donuts, and muffins. I will make a vegan graham cracker crust pie or vegan crisps, but sorry my politically conscious and animal loving vegan friends, no traditional pie for you!

We also offer a DIY section with dough and fillings that you can order and do part of the work and take all the credit!

And upon request we are now offer pie making party classes held in your own home! Details will be posted on the website soon!

For now we are strictly a delivery only business, no store front yet, but I am hopeful! We are strictly word of mouth , so spread the word, the love, and the butter! I request a weeks notice when ordering, but really, if I have the time I will make you a pie! I have a hard time saying no!

So, For the love of Butter, Eat Pie, Make Pie, and Order Pie!

esa@butterlovebakeshop...

If you mention yelp I will waive your first delivery fee!

I'll be first to admit that I'm not a huge dessert person but I do like to dabble in them especially at fancy restaurants. However at a Yelp gathering I got to sample about four of Esa's wonderful creations and witnessed women orgasming at her butter pie (which is indeed very tasty). Try at your own risk. You have been warned!

I love pie. I like to lick pie. I like to eat pie. I love to munch on pie. Stick two fingers into it and just go to town on it. The juicy yummy goodness, tasting ever so sweet and ever so savory at the same time...Man, I would dare to venture out a statement that will haunt me later but...This was almost better than sex. What, you thought I was talking about sex all along? Get your mind out of the gutter! That's saved for other things. You should know better!

I left the house at 9:30am this morning. Yeah, the bake sale starts at 11am but I got up extra early and went to sleep early just to get me a pie. Well, actually 2 pies but I'll explain as I go. So I got to Swankety Swank around 10am. Walk in and saw a lady and a dog. Nice dog...When it wasn't barking and growling at me. All bark, no bite. Cute dog. I found out that I was EXTREMELY early and it won't be until the stated start time of 11am. So I went for a walk, going down to the DMV and taking pics of anything that caught my interest. It was such a nice day that I actually enjoyed walking today. When I walked back to the Swank, it was still early by half an hour. SO I decided to get a cup of coffee and sit down for a sip. I almost lost track of time people watching and enjoying the quietness of the neighborhood. Reminds me of my old neighborhood in North Beach...Man, this is starting to get depressing...

Anyway! So I got up and made my way over to the bake sale that was slowly unfolding. When I was crossing I heard Wilhelm shout my name. Nice to see a friendly face. So we waited patiently for the all the pies to show up and for Esa to complete the price list for the products at hand. I was really wanting to buy a Butter Love Pie but when they said "kinda sweet", I had to change my mind. Gotta watch the sugar levels if I want to stay away from becoming a raging diabetic.

So I got myself a chicken pot pie and 2 peanut butter cookies and 2 dark chocolate cookies. A little sugar doesn't hurt. But if I bought the Butter Pie, I would be in a coma. Seriously, I could probably eat half in a sitting. Maybe the whole thing if I wanted to...So I pick up the pot pie and it weighed a ton! I mean, a lot of heft to it. And it was still warm!!! How awesome was that? So I paid and bid them adieu and also to Wilhelm. When I got home, I had to run off to play some dodgeball with Carlos and company so I didn't get a chance to savor the still warm pot pie. But I did have a slice when I got home. Oh...My...GOD!!! Paula Deen would have an orgasm if she tasted this pie! Can you say butta in the crust? BUTTA!!! Butta butta butta butta!!! But I noticed something when I cut into the pie...The tin wasn't a tin...I got the lucky glass pie pan. My mom looked at the glass and said that is fancy. I said this is either the fanciest baker in town or this was a mistake. And it turns out to be one when Esa posted that she wanted her glass pan back in the near future. So maybe that might have been the thing that made the pie heavier. But do I care? Not really because the pie was freaking delicious! Even when it was cold it tasted sooo freaking good!

So to all of you out there in Yelpland, hear me! Stay the fuck away from me when you see me at a Butter Love Bake Sale because I swear I will kill you if you buy the last chicken pot pie! You hear me! MY PIE!!! MINE!!!!!!

Thank you for your time. You have been warned...

I would sacrifice my figure for these pies.

The apple pies were a perfect mixture of tart and sweet, and the strawberry crisp was also delicious.  The pies were so good - and so obviously homemade - that several of the people at the party took home her business cards for future events.  I sincerely hope Butter Love takes off and spreads buttery goodness all over the Bay Area.

I called Esa on Thursday looking for three last-minute pies to be delivered on Friday afternoon.  She couldn't make any promises, but claimed to be able to squeeze in some magic for me.  And that she did.  Esa apparently holds down a "real job" and bakes as a hobby and supplemental income.  She rents a kitchen to prepare her baked goodness and hopes to someday have her own bakery.  I am happy to contribute towards this goal - we need more businesses like her around who can accommodate their customers, have a conversation on the phone, and have their husband deliver the goods right to my doorstep (first delivery is free)!  My cure for all injustices in the world: buttery love for all baked into recyclable containers.

If you know me, you know I love pie. As a kid my favorite birthday dessert wasn't cake, but strawberry-rhubarb pie. Do you need to know this, no but still, i have a very long and extensive history in loving pie.

And, if you know me, you'll know I'm lazy. Which means that pie + delivery is something that speaks to me. Heck, I'd think it was great for mediocre pie. (but I wouldn't rate it 5 stars). This was NOT a mediocre pie. This was fantastic.

Now, imagine really tasty pie or galettes (what's a galette? a pie that's not cooked in a pie shell so it doesn't LOOk like pie. It doesn't have as much filling as pie. but it still TASTES like pie). AND it's delivered to you. And it is GOOD.

I can't wait to try more pies. But I will say the galette I tasted today was fantabulous. Really nice crust. And Esa's willingness to find me something pie like with less than 24 hours notice was equally wonderful. And delivery to my home? SWEEET (literally. sweet).

OOoooooh. I tried a pie. A pear crumb pie (crisp pie?) to be exact. And crikey it was amazing. So good we pawned the leftovers off on a relative so we didn't eat them in one sitting (which we were having a hard time not doing). Seriously, so good that we were picking the crumbs off the serving plates (crumb pie has some extremely large and tasty crumbs).

"Ooh, now let's get down tonight
Baby I'm hot just like an oven
I need some lovin'
And baby, I can't hold it much longer
It's getting stronger and stronger
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing, oh baby
Makes me feel so fine
Helps to relieve my mind
Sexual Healing baby, is good for me
Sexual Healing is something that's good for me
Whenever blue tear drops are falling
And my emotional stability is leaving me
There is something I can do
I can get on the telephone and call you up baby, and
Honey I know you'll be there to relieve me
The love you give to me will free me
If you don't know the things you're dealing
I can tell you, darling, that it's Sexual Healing
Get up, Get up, Get up, Get up, let's make love tonight
Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, 'cos you do it right..."

Lovely, tasty pies made by an equally lovely woman, baked with love (and real butter, don't forget about the BUTTER!)......there's just a lot of love to be had when you take a bite of one of Esa's pies.

I was fortunate enough to sample quite a lot of the Butter Love Bakeshop's fabulous pies at their grand opening party, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed them all - from the turkey pot pie, to the butter pie with pecans and raisins, to the scrumptious butternut squash pie that was so good that it had to come home with me. Well, actually I ordered one for Thanksgiving, so it made it home with me soon enough!

Ever since reading about it on the Butter Love website I've been fantasizing about the chocolate pudding pie (is it wrong to have lustful thoughts about a baked good? Damn, I guess there's another year in purgatory) and I have a feeling one is going to be making its way home with me soon......maybe as a Christmas gift to myself?!

Dear Santa, I've been mostly nice, just a little bit naughty, won't you please bring me pie? Screw the Christmas cookies - I want PIE! Butter Love Bakeshop pie that is.......

A Thanksgiving Prayer

Are you there God?  It's me, Amy C.

This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for many things.  But as it has been said, "the greatest of these is love."

Love for family.  Love for friends.  And of course, LOVE for BUTTER (and the many love-ly forms it comes in).

Like Butter Love Bakeshop's Apple Crisp Pie.
And Butternut Squash Pie.
And Vegetable Pot Pie.
And Empanadas.
And Chiffon Cake.
And Butter Pie.
And Brownies.

Oh and thank you for creating pants with elastic waistbands.  HALLELUJAH!

Amen

Utterly, orgasmic tasting treats to be had from Butter Love Bakeshop (aka BLB). Personally, an acronym for 'BETTER LOVE BAKED goodness". I swear, if you are lucky enough to make it to heaven or paradise or that happy place somewhere after death, God or the Supreme Being would say, "Would you like some pie?" and you know what you would be handed, one of Esa's baked goods. I'm serious. No joke. Agnostic? Atheist? Whatever! You will believe there is something divine about her pies and cakes. Thank God I know the concept of moderation because if I didn't, my behind would look like pie.

So, you're probably thinking, "Shut up Dorothy S. and tell me what you friggin' bought and ate!". Okay, okay, I'll tell ya! I had to get the vegan donuts. Goodness gracious. I mean, seriously, chocolate and glazed vegan donuts with rainbow sprinkles? Hell yea! Uber delicious. I also purchased a Chocolate Cranberry Pecan Pie. Um, yeah, the minute I took a bite, I had a foodgasm! You, literally, taste all three flavors in one bite. It's not one of those delicacies where you have to keep eating to see if you like it and/or figure out what's in it. Not the case at all. Esa marries ingredients well and truly creates some of the most delectable and scrumptious baked goods -- with Butter and Love!!

Special shout out to Josua P. for being the man behind the woman! http://josuap.yelp.com

"Shut your pie hole!"

Whenever my  boyfriend jokingly says this, I reply:

"It's a cake hole,  honey. . .I just don't do pie."

And my mind's eye flashes back to a million pies gone wrong.  Because a pie is nothing without an excellent crust.  I come from a long line of crust queens.  Women who could make a pie in five minutes flat without even breaking a sweat.  As a young girl, I would make a pie only to be subjected to The Haig of pie critique.

"It's not flaky enough."

"It's heavy and tough."

"It wasn't cold enough when you rolled it out."

"It was too cold when you rolled it out."

"You worked the dough too much."

"You didn't work the dough enough."

So on and so forth until I gave up and became a cake queen.  I was happy with that.   Stayed away from making pies and since I equate pie with mental anguish just never really could love pie.

When I was in cooking school, my teacher observed that I didn't much like making bread and in an effort to break my spirit, she assigned me bread as my daily chore.  Sucka!  I f'in ruled bread. . .ha!  Now, if she had assigned me pie. .. I might have dropped out.  I am serious as a heart attack.  Me + pie = :(

Then one day I met a lovely girl named Esa who loved pie as much as I didn't.  To her, crust is second nature.  Excellent pie is her gift to the world.

Esa makes a pie crust that I wish my Nana and her cronies were alive to sample.  It is perfect.  Light, flaky and tender.  Buttery and golden.  Perfect.

I just bought two pies from her and after sitting at a bakery sampling sweets and drinking coffee all afternoon I came home, opened the pie boxes and was so enchanted that I had to slice a sliver of each one and sit down to enjoy it.  One of her signatures is a Butter Pie.  It's a gloriously sweet filling with tones of maple, butter and brown sugar.  It's like nothing I've ever had but if you're a fan of the custardy part of pecan pie, then this pie will make you very happy.   I got mine plain so I could taste it unadulterated but you can get different additions  . . .my next order with be for one with pecans and raisins.  The other pie was a pear-cranberry pie scented with cardamom.  The crust is once again picture perfect - it was a gorgeous pie and it hurt to cut into it but I am glad I did.  The crust is sturdy enough not to get sogged down by the fruit filling.  The fruit is abundant and lightly sweetened. . .perfect.

This holiday I will make my signature Buche de Noel and right next to it will be one of Esa's gorgeous, delectable pies.  Because you can't live on cake alone.

I am sitting here. . .brushing velvety little crumbs of pie crust off my lap.  Happy.

Me + Pie = :)

Cake vs. Pie
A tale older than time, the on-going battle between two formidable opponents wreaks havoc on families and friendships across the land. I primarily identify myself as a "cake" person. I have some friends who like pie, but not many...I tend to be more attracted to cake people.
Something happened recently that turned the tables, flipped my world upside down, and sent my taste-buds to therapy...I had an identity crisis...a love affair...with PIE.
Thanks to Esa at Butter Love Bake Shop, I think I am bi-dessertual. *Now, I am not going to pretend that I don't know Esa...she's a dear friend and I have had the extreme pleasure of watching her pastry talent grow over the last 13 years. She has a true passion for pastry that is undeniably present in her product. I swear she takes a HUGE scoop of love and kneads it into her dough!
But I digress...truth is Esa's pies and delicious, beautiful, and wonderfully fresh.  She has a wide variety of pies, both savory and sweet, cakes, and gift items on her website. Tastefully (in more ways than one) presented, these pies are the perfect contribution to a holiday gathering whether it's a formal dinner or a casual pot-luck.

*I just want to restate that I know and love Esa with all my heart...and while I am a devoted friend, I am also a gentle critic...I would written this review exactly the same had the pastry chef been an ex-con who got pleasure out of beating cats...good pie is good pie dammit*
