Music:
Electronica club remix of Billy Holiday's "Speak Low" followed by Brazilian girls mix of Blossom Dearie's "Just One of Those Things," on repeat for the past  hour or so.

Ambient:
The quiet synchronized hum of 300 electronic devices & an oppressive endless moan from the ventilation system

People:
Mind numbing chatter, an occasional question, and disembodied giggles sprinkled around from places just out of sight.

Mind:
Wild screaming thoughts that are disruptive, conflicting, and just barely squelched by the blastingly repetitive electronica I'm pumping into my head.

Michele,

Yes, my beloved green Keroppi clock that I got from one of those stands in the mall about 9 years ago. It even has an alarm feature that plays a really over modulated, distorted version of "Old MacDonald." Strange but hey, it is Keroppi. I found out from Sanrio in '99 that a majority of Keroppi items were being discontinued because Sanrio wanted to bring in new characters. It is now so hard to find authentic Keroppi items. eBay is often my best place to look. Keroppi was my favorite, next to Chococat,  and I was bummed when they 'retired' him.

Michele,

Yeah, I know what you mean! I grew up with Hello Kitty, Twin Stars, My Melody, Spotty Dotty, Keroppi, etc. All these new ones are unknown to me as well. I love frogs in general so Keroppi is naturally my favorite. I think Hello Kitty is fun since I am an "aspiring" cat lady but I prefer Keroppi. I am totally bummed his character has been phased out.

I wanted the Hello Kitty pave diamond pendant but when I saw it goes for $3,000 to $5,000, I just said forget it! Crazy! I was trying to find an authentic rhinestone one but they are no longer made due to the new "Kimora Lee Simmons" diamond line.

I can't do it. I do not even like "reality" TV anyway, let alone watching spoiled rich people act like brats. So, I will forgo the overly expensive Hello Kitty diamonds and just opt for maki and nigiri instead.

And yes, Keroppi rocks! :)

oddly enough, the theme to ghostbusters.  The presidents day parade float outside is playing it as it goes by.  I think the residents of old town are so out of touch with reality that they don't even know what country's presidents they're celebrating.  Bagpipes & kilts just don't exactly scream "America."  It's not "heritage day," it's "Presidents Day!"

Also, hearing a man yelling through a police megaphone whilst I work at a dull cubicle reminds me of "The Wall" a bit too much.  I'm going to go shiver and cry now.

Also, what I'm REALLY dying for is a new Postal Service album.  They always say they're working, and I KNOW it must take forever given the insanely cool way they put the albums together, but pleeeease, give me something!  A single track even!

Diana K,
I went to both of those shows also. Did you go to the early or late show at 930? I went to the early one and heard that David Bazan didn't play the late. Ben was awesome, but David Bazan was the highlight for me.

The new Dntel album is pretty cool. It's not Postal Service, but at least it's part of it.

Diana: Yeah!! At DAR. I didn't make it to the Ben Gibbard Solo show at 930 though. I'm sure he was ridiculously amazing.

If you guys are into Postal Service, you should check out the British indie band Tunng.  Personally, I think they are better than the Postal Service (blasphemy, I know...).  Also, the Lovely Sparrows from Austin, Texas can provide momentary relief from the now three plus years since Give Up...

Chris W:  I went to the late show, and we were running late, so I don't think we caught any of the openers.  But I'll be sure to check out the whole Dntel album on your rec.  I've thought to listen a bit whenever the PS fancy strikes me, but I've never done more than the casual listen on their myspace page.

Venu N: thank you much for the two recommendations!! I'm DEFINITELY going to check out both Tunng and the Lovely Sparrows.  They might not fill the PS void, but anything to tide me over :)

I listened to Lupe Fiasco's 'superstar' today on repeat about 20 times, while getting ready for work. It's a great song to start a Friday.
